★ Vice President Pence visited Turkey and brokered a deal with Turkey's President Erdoğan
that stopped Turkey's incursion into Syrian territory. The territory previously had American troops that President Trump ordered to return home.
Turkish incursion started to push out the Syrian Kurdish militia know as YPG. Turkey considers YPG to be an extension of the rebel Turkish Kurds' Kurdistan Workers Party. Although the U. S. considers
the Kurdistan Party to be a terrorist group along with the European Union, it has been arming the YPG to fight with Islamic State in Syria since 2015.
Turkey has been objecting to this cooperation ever since it started, saying that the U. S., was in effect arming the Kurdistan Workers Party. The Kurdistan Workers Party has been active since 1985 and attacking both civilian and military targets in Turkey. The majority of the 40,000 civilian deaths have been Kurds, some killed by the Kurdistan Workers Party for not agreeing with them.
The agreement brokered also calls for the U. S. to lift the sanctions President Trump imposed
earlier in the week on Turkey. President Trump said that he approved the agreement and
said he likes Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
★ There are a lot of different opinions about the agreement. Some analysts say that it was a victory for Turkey's president Mr. Erdoğan, and yet some say he actually had to take a step back from what he wanted to do.
Some analysts also say that Russia and Syria filled the vacuum that U.S. left when President Trump ordered U.S. troops out, and they forced Turkey to capitulate.
★ Thousands of people organized by pro-Kurdish leftist groups have protested in Cologne Germany against Turkey's incursion into northern Syria targeting Kurdish forces, reports the Associated Press.
Elsewhere in Germany, Agence France-Presse reports that there has been altercations between Turks and Kurds.
About one third of the people from Turkey living in Germany are Kurds, numbering 1 million.
★ According to various sources in the U.S. and Turkey, President Trump says ABC news "owes an apology" for mistaking Kentucky gun range video for Turkish bombing of Syria.
ABC aired footage on "World News Tonight" and "Good Morning America" that the network obtained from a source on Sunday night and Monday morning. ABC News framed it as battlefield video, when, in fact, it appears to be from a night gun demonstration at the Knob Creek Gun Range in West Point, Kentucky.
ABC claimed that the video showed a Turkish military attack on civilians in Syria.
ABC said on Twitter on Monday that it regretted the error but did not apologize.

Speaking of civilian casualties, artillery attacks coming from the Syrian side, most likely from the YPG militia, killed this week again and number of civilians in border towns inside Turkey. Most of these towns' inhabitants are Turkish Kurds.
Turkish sources say that in one day there has been 70 rocket and mortar shells landed in Ceylanpınar town.
★ According to a Stratfor article, Sinan Ciddi writes that Turkey is fighting a losing PR battle over Syria.
Ciddi says that Turkey's allies are worried that the Turkish incursion will destabilize Syria and reinvigorate the Islamic State. Turkey's unilateral action could isolate Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his government amid widespread global condemnation.
Ciddi adds that Turkey's move is motivated more by Erdoğan's domestic political concerns than any imminent threat posed by the YPG.
