★ Turkey on Saturday reopened the Bosporus straight to traffic after briefly closing it due to a suspected mine.
An underwater security team examined the object. It turned out to be an old mine, and the security team neutralized it, said Turkey's National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar.
Commenting on rumors that underwater mines laid by Ukraine to deter Russian attacks in the ongoing war might drift across the Black Sea, Akar said they notified both Russians and Ukrainians and that coordination was ongoing.

★ British Magazine The Economist reported that Istanbul became the preferred destination for thousands of Russians fleeing their country due to the war in Ukraine.
At least 14,000 Russians moved to Turkey since the beginning of the conflict.
Turkey has not closed its airspace to Russian commercial flights, and Russians can travel to Turkey visa-free, making it easier for them to go to Turkey.
The Economist writes that this is reminiscent of the 1920s when White Russians escaped the Bolsheviks in large numbers, and some ended up choosing Istanbul as their destination.
Also, Turkish daily Duvar reported that both Ukrainians and Russians are flocking to Turkey's Mediterranean resort province of Antalya to buy or rent houses. The housing market in Antalya is seeing a sevenfold boom in demand, and prices have surged threefold.
Antalya is not alone in the surge: Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, and Bursa are following the Mediterranean province as destinations for the Ukrainian and Russians, the daily Duvar adds.
According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, Russians became the third-largest number of foreign buyers of houses, and Ukrainians now ranked eighth. Real estate experts expect a surge in March.

★ According to the Anatolia News Agency, Turkey's president Erdoğan said that his government is trying to ensure that the weight of inflation does not crush the Turks. Mr. Erdoğan was inaugurating a new airport in the Tokat province.

★ Turkish red meat prices went up 50% recently after a decree by the Meat and Milk Board reports the Turkish daily Cumhuriyet. Except for three countries, the government also banned the export of red meat to stabilize the prices.

★ In an event, leading names of the gastronomy industry in Turkey shared their experiences with students, reports Faruk Şüyün of the Turkish daily Dünya.
The event took place with 5 thousand students from 67 universities. Two metropolitan mayors, 83 academicians, gastronomy, and cookery students shared their experiences in the sessions organized under 17 different categories.
The event aims to bring a different perspective to the industry. Many local and foreign brands supported the event and participated in its forums.
Big Chefs Kitchens Coordinator and Culinary Forum Organizer Murat Aslan said the following about the event:
"We guided more than 20 thousand gastronomy students in their careers through interviews with 'National Cooking Camp' and 'Diary of a Chef.' These are social responsibility projects in the field of gastronomy. We are happy to bring together the young generation with a huge staff that examines the gastronomy sector from all aspects."

IGART gathers the cultural and artistic events at IGA Istanbul Airport under one roof. It continues to operate under the leadership of painter and Academician Dr. Hüsamettin Koçan with the participation of members from fields of architecture and art.
IGART organizes its contests to support young artists. Turkish and foreign young artists under 35 participated in the competition this year with 221 projects. The winner was Betül Kotil with her work "The Voice of SAYA."

In his speech, Yaşar Holding Chairman of the Board of Directors, Feyhan Yaşar, said: "We aim to crown our activities with knowledge and wisdom. We aim to contribute to social welfare through sustainable work. Our excitement and greatest strengths are innovation and technology."
The founders of the award named it after the founder of Yaşar holding. Yaşar Holding, initially known for its DYO paint products, is now a conglomerate that owns companies in many sectors.
The holding also established the Yaşar University, located in Turkey's Aegean Sea metropolis of Izmir. It has seven schools teaching law to engineering.

★ Turkish Publishers Association gave its 2021 Freedom of Thought and Expression Awards to
İthaki Publishing Group and author Gülşen İşeri.
In his opening speech, Kenan Kocatürk, President of the Turkish Publishers Association, said that the problems Turkish publishers struggled with were the obstacles to freedom of thought and the prohibitions against freedom of publishing.
Ithaki Publications Editor-in-Chief Alican Saygı Ortanca and Foreign Publications Editor-in-Chief Ece Çavuşlu received the award from Nalan Çelik, Deputy Chairman of the Writers' Union of Turkey, and Saniye Yurdakul, Deputy Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
In their speeches, Alican Saygı Ortanca and Ece Çavuşlu emphasized that they did not feel alone with the award they received and that they were in favor of egalitarian and inclusive publishing.

★ According to TRT, celebrating its 41st anniversary this year, the long-running film festival returns to theaters after a two-year absence due to the pandemic.
Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts is organizing the 41st edition of the Istanbul Film Festival. Unlike the previous two years when screenings moved online, this year, the festival will be back in the theaters.
The festival will take place in seven theaters: Atlas 1948, Beyoğlu Sineması, Pera Museum Auditorium in Beyoğlu, CineWAM Premium+ City's (Salon 3 and Salon 7) in Nişantaşı, and Kadıköy Sinemasi and Kadıköy Belediyesi Sinematek/Sinema Evi in Kadıköy.
The festival will begin on April 8 and continue through to April 19, 2022. Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts will screen 135 features and 22 shorts by 164 directors from 43 countries.
Asked if there would be films from Russia during a news conference, festival director Kerem Ayan said that there would be. "Besides, the Russian directors whose films we're screening are also against war. We are also showing Ukrainian films, and we believe in the unifying power of art," he said to subdued applause.

The detained included Aydın Archaeology Museum Director Abdülbari Yıldız and some of the museum staff, and two police officers. The police are looking out for the other three suspects.
The police also seized a marble statue, believed to be from the 18th century, during the operation. They will hand it over to the Aydın Museum Directorate for examination.
